Fire Her Up

I managed to get Frankie just to quickly film me running her for the first time. She ran great.....(apart from me remembering how to change gear!!). Theres so much more power than my Ironhead Sporty, you have to seriously hang on when you blip the throttle. The riding postions fine, and your so busy trying to stay on, you forget about the sprung forks and the solo seat!!

Tony came round tonight, and we decided to try and start the bike! We filled the fuel tank, bled the fuel through the carb and re-checked the timing. She fired up almost straight away. Everything seems to be fine......... apart from next door banging on the wall!!

The carb still needs setting... i will wait till i have a few miles on the bike, let the engine bed in, and there’s a few oil leaks to rectify.

I will wait for a dry day now and get her out the front of the house on the road, set the carb and check the clutch and the gears are working properly. Sounds amazing ####......... Loud as hell (new it would be).

I will document the trip to the test station next.

Time to get her off the bench!

Tony gave me a hand getting the bike off the bench yesterday, it wasnt to difficult with the two of us, a small bench and a car ramp. The bike looks great now its on the ground..... really low. Ive just got some small jobs to finish now, tidy wiring, bleed brakes, couple of oil leaks etc. Should be able to try and fire her up in a few days time.

What types of oil to use?

Southern Motor Cycle Company recommend the following:

Engine: Non-synthetic for the first 500 miles, then run synthetic. Use a 20W-50 Harley Davidson or Amsol oil ( 3 quarts-you may have to add a bit more, check with the bike straight, not on side stand).

Oil pressure should be anything over 3 PSI in heat and at idol it will probably go to 0 but as long as it goes back up youre fine. Also at cruising speeds around 60-65mph, you should have between 15 and 30 PSI.

Transmission: Harley Davidson semi synthetic tranny fluid (21oz).

Break fluid is DOT 5- front and rear master cylinders.

Oil Pressure Gauge

Southern Motor Cycles recommended I fit an oil pressure gauge, they supplied the adaptor, and I ended up buying the gauge off Ebay, i managed to find one with a light blue face. I had to re-bend the oil pipe to squeeze around the carb, and make a steel bracket to attach to the rocker box, looks good.... and sits just inside my leg when im on the bike for easy viewing.

Decided against the leather tank bib in the end....it covered up too much of the paint job! ive just cut out a small disc of leather to go under the filler cap (to match the seat.. still waiting for my new one!!)... bought the badge of Ebay.

Last of the Wiring

LoBoy Bobber Blog Complete Motorcycle Bike Kit

Im getting to the end of the wiring now guys....

This image shows the ground wires for the negative battery cable and the break light... ive fastened them to the bikes frame at the rear of the battery box.

These are the battery connections from the starter motor and the relay up to the postive side of the battery. You also need to run a 4mm ground wire from one of the starter motor mounting bolts up to the negative side of the battery, this will help your starter work properly.

These are the sensor wires to the speedo... you have to space the sensor off the tranny to keep it off the gear wheels. It will be removed after the first few miles, cleaned of any iron fillings and replaced along with the oil

This is the reset button for the speedo..... ive glued it to the under side of the front tank bracket ( so i can access it in the future).
